About the ISP

The Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP) is an independent Swedish Administrative Authority.

 

The task of the ISP amongst others is to control the exports of military equipment and dual-use products, and to be the Swedish screening authority for foreign direct investments. The ISP is also responsible for a number of targeted sanctions and is the National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention.

 

The ISP has three advisory councils connected to its operation; the Export Control Council, the Technical-Scientific Council and the Strategic Cooperation Council.

 

Responsible ministry

The Department for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation within the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs is the department responsible for ISP. Ms Maria Malmer Stenergard, Minister for Foreign Affairs, is the responsible minister.

 

History

The ISP was established on February 1, 1996 subsequent to a decision by the Swedish Parliament (the Riksdag), creating a coherent organisation for export control.
